Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding ultimately affect the shape and volume of your breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and begin to sag. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts.

Some patients may have mild “drooping” breasts, which can be improved with an implant. If the “dropping” is severe, they may need an implant in conjunction with a breast lift. This is usually performed through a “lollipop” or “key hole” incision. This involves two incisions. One incision is made around the areola and the other runs vertically from the bottom of the areola down the front of the breast. The patient must be aware that this incision may scar, or at least temporarily.

This procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under very safe general anesthesia. The patient is able to resume all normal activity the very next day after surgery, and all sutures are removed approximately one week after surgery.
